Make Art Make Justice: Ears, Hands, Heart

This is part of SURJ’s ongoing series of low key art hangouts—no artistic experience or ability is required. (Seriously!) This is a family friendly activity, but be aware that difficult subject matter regarding police violence will be explored.

For this hour, we will listen to a piece of music and respond using our hands to engage with our feelings through the process of art-making. Don’t worry!—the facilitators will help give you some structure for doing this if you don’t have any experience. For this workshop, assemble any art or craft materials you might have around your home, such as paper, cardboard, four by six index cards, pens, pencils, markers, crayons, paints or inks, stickers, stamps, glue/paste/tape, old print materials, wrapping paper, stationary, etc. We will spend an hour of companionable art making on Zoom. We will end with some suggestions about how we send our products in the mail to pressure our elected officials around racial justice issues SURJ is currently working on.
