Support Racial Justice in Santa Clara County

Will you make a donation to SURJ Santa Clara County?

Make redistribution a habit! We are working on increasing the total amount we have coming in through monthly donations. We fundraise on behalf of our partners and organizing in pursuit of racial justice, including through the TRUST, Care First: Stop the Jail, and Protect Juristac campaigns.

  1. Traditionally almost all of our monthly donations have split between Silicon Valley De-Bug, the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, and PASOS.  The more monthly donors we have, the more we can give our partners flexibility and predictability in their own budgeting.Your donation to SURJ Santa Clara County today can help ensure that we can continue our distributions.

  2. Staff. While SURJ Santa Clara County is nearly entirely composed of volunteers, we have a paid part-time lead organizer, and we are looking to hire a part-time administrative assistant.

  3. What else will your donation support?  Rent, accounting, fees to do outreach at community events, and printing & art supplies for our outreach and actions.

To donate, please go to our SURJ Santa Clara County donate link. Or if you have a birthday coming up, consider asking your loved ones to become monthly donors as a birthday present. :)

My birthday is coming up and all I want is racial justice. You can help make my wish come true. I’m celebrating my birthday this year by asking folks to become a monthly donor to Showing Up for Racial Justice. https://www.zeffy.com/fundraising/095dd4a6-f1b6-4b90-9bfc-94eefdd049c9 **There are images of balloons, wrapped gift boxess, a birthday cake with sparklers, and a QR code that directs to the same link.

What can YOU do to support SURJ’s vision of multiracial organizing in Santa Clara County??

  1. If you are currently a donor and in a position to increase your monthly donation amount (even if only temporarily); your donation will help SURJ continue to direct funds to people of color led organizations fighting for racial justice here in the South Bay.

  2. Fundraise in your personal networks.  Consider making a direct ask on Facebook, via text or email or through a handwritten note for folks in your life to support multiracial organizing to dismantle white supremacy.  If you have a birthday, anniversary or some other gift-giving occasion in your life, consider asking folks to make donations as a gift to you.

  3. Utilize your skills or networks.  We could use help with grant writing or fundraising.  Do you or anyone you know have these skills?  Do you or anyone you know have ties with organizations or foundations that might fund our work?  You might be surprised about what ideas come to you if you give this some thought.

  4. Tap into matching funds. Does where you work do matching donations?  Do they have a corporate foundation that does charitable giving?

How your donations have supported racial justice organizing in Santa Clara County

Over the last several years, SURJ has worked alongside our partners to stop the County from spending three-quarters of a billion dollars to build a new jail and shift the narrative to prioritize Care First. Last fall, we got the County to agree to release a direct phone number for TRUST (so that folks in crisis or folks who have been harmed by police don't have to navigate the 988 phone tree and potentially end up with a police response).  And in the spring, we partnered with RECS to get the San Jose City Council to vote to fund an additional 40 hour/week TRUST field team for the City, which was a fundamental redefinition of how the City considers its public safety mandate.  Our work to reimagine community safety continues, and we are also prepared to take up the fight in 2025 to Protect Juristac and stop the proposed open pit mine on lands sacred to the Amah Mutsun tribal band.  Your donations have helped make these wins–wins that secured tangible impact for communities harmed by racism–possible.

Your one-time donations also go to support organizing efforts in Santa Clara County to make long lasting change for racial justice. SURJ Santa Clara County remains committed to giving the majority of our funds directly to our Accountability Partners for their use. National SURJ recommends giving at least 50%. Historically, our SURJ chapter has donated more than 70% to Accountability Partners; Silicon Valley Debug, the Rapid Response Network Family Support Fund, and the Amah Mutsun Land Trust.   Your generosity can help us continue to support our partners and our own organizing costs.
