Inspired by the Indigenous rights teach-in from this month’s General Meeting and want to keep exploring? Come to the next Make Art Make Justice 75 minute ART HANGOUT and use your heart, hands, and head to investigate what coming to Indigenous solidarity means for you! We’ll use the practice of found poetry to delve into what is written between the lines, and reveal what goes unsaid in the histories and present of our colonial legacy.
What is found poetry? A “found poem” is one that is created using only words, phrases, or quotations that have been selected and rearranged from another text. Any source text will work – magazines, catalogs, books or articles. Circle words and phrases in the text which are meaningful to you, and draw/color-in the rest of the page to reveal a unique, hidden message.
As usual NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. This is a tool many poets use to generate new work, but no need to polish up your MFA to come to this event. This is for anyone and everyone interested in the metaphors and messages hidden in plain sight. We’ll also make space for more learning about justice for local Indigenous groups, and take some actions together!
