Panel Discussion on Decarceration in SCC

Panel: Care First and Jail Last in Santa Clara County

The Community Call to Stop a New Jail and Create Alternatives to Incarceration

Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors will decide on January 25,2022 whether they will continue to invest in systemic racism and inhumane treatment by building a new jail or explore community based solutions to mental health, substance abuse, and the criminalization of poverty. Panelists will share their insights as to why and how we can build a county that divests from jails in order to create safe, healthy, and thriving communities. In anticipation of the Board of Supervisors vote, we will also release a Decarceration Report to put forward the arguments against the building of a new jail, and share how to impact this critical decision on January 25, 2022.
