SURJ is joining our partners in the other organizing committees at Sacred Heart Community Service for an Asamblea. This is a chance to break bread and build community towards our common purpose, with members of the Sacred Heart Housing Action Committee, Survivors of the Streets, PASOS, and Race, Equity and Community Safety (RECS). This exciting event will be IN PERSON at Sacred Heart Community Service at 1381 S. First Street (at Alma). Food and childcare will be provided. Please RSVP here so that we can make food and childcare arrangements: https://tinyurl.com/JuneAsamblea2022
During the final hour of the Asamblea, SURJ and RECS will meet together in community to get trained together on structured organization conversations (a particular style of mini-one to ones that comes from labor organizing).
Masks are mandatory inside the building at Sacred Heart; we will be eating outside. The building is wheelchair accessible. There is free parking in the parking lot and also ample free street parking on Alma Court, about a block away. Sacred Heart Community Service is public transit accessible by bus and the Tamien light rail station is a 10 minute walk. Please enter through the volunteer entrance in the back closest to First Street.
Here is the tentative schedule:
6-6:30pm Food and relationship building, in tables that will be mixed across organizing committees
6:30-7:30pm Structured discussion/learning with other committee members about how our issues connect
7:30-8:30pm InSURJRECShion—joint meeting and training with RECS
