Join our retreat — build your skills and help plan out our next year.
We’re going to cover:
Theory of Change: How do we strategically and effectively make change toward a more equally just community? Come learn about power, and political cover, and learn from the past and from other campaigns.
Thinking like an Organizer: We build our capacity and power through organizing — so what does that mean? What can we do in small interactions and in big ways to grow the work we do?
One-on-ones and Outreach to Strangers: Within our chapter SURJers have a ton of different skills, interests, connections and resources. One-on-ones give us a chance to get to know each other better, our motivations and what brings us back to the work, and what we bring to the table. We’ll also go over talking with strangers at actions, outreach events, etc, and bring some of that one-on-one and thinking like an organizer mindset into that work.
Lunch with speed dating 1-on-1s :-D
Disconnecting from the Police Narrative, with Mari Tapia: Mari will take us through a discussion about policing in this country, and what narratives we tell about it. We recommend you watch the multi-part Netflix documentary “When They See Us” before, if you can.
