The SURJ Art & Culture working group is hosting an art build to stencil more fans to use for housing actions at SJ City Council. Join us in person at Sacred Heart Community Service on Monday May 8th anytime between 6 and 8:30pm. No experience is necessary. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, or bring an apron/smock/trash bag with arm holes poked through it. :) We mask indoors to keep our community service. SHCS is at 1381 S. First Street, but the entrance to the parking lot is off Alma. Enter the building in the back, the Volunteer Entrance which is closest to First Street. The building is wheelchair accessible. There are two nearby bus stops and the Tamien light rail station is a 10 minute walk.
The SURJ @ Sacred Heart Art and Culture Working Group brings the revolutionary practice of art and the creative spirit into our organizing at every stage, and contributes to the cultural work of our chapter to further the cause of dismantling white supremacy.
We do this by:
Developing and leading a regular series of community and creative skills building workshops called Make Art Make Justice, open to all!
Taking on other art or creative needs for SURJ, such as graphic design, signmaking, postcard making, posters, digital storytelling (audio/video/photography), artwork, music, forum theater, and cultural production.
Developing leadership within our group to empower its members to create, lead, and help shape the thinking of our work together from the perspective of the creative process.
These meetings are sometimes online and sometimes in person. Email jenm@sacredheartcs.org for details.
