SURJers showed up to protect the Sanctuary policy in Santa Clara County in 2019
The Immigration Issue Group focuses on immigration as a racial justice issue, such as criminalization of immigration, detention, surveillance, and deportation.
The Immigration Issue Group meets on the second Thursday of the month, from 7:30 to 8:30 PM (NOTE New Date & Time). Check the Action Calendar for the Zoom link. Contact Kim Guptill at kimguptill@gmail.com for more information.
Here’s a sample of what we do during our meetings:
• educate folks on the racist history of U.S. immigration, the current legal landscape, Latin American history, etc.;
• invite our Accountability Partners, the RRN & PASOS, to update us on their work
• prepare testimony defending the rights of immigrants and show up at City Council and Board of Supervisor meetings on the regular;
• mobilize SURJers for marches/rallies/protests at ICE offices, elected officials’ offices, the federal building in SJ, and, of course, at Story & King;
• train and serve as "De-Escalators" at public events for immigrants
You, too, can join/rejoin the ranks. It's good work!
